RightEye changed her mindset from 'my son has a reading and learning problem,' to 'my son has a fixable, functional vision problem interfering with his reading and learning'
Our eleven-year-old patient came to us after his mom attended our in-office workshop regarding the link between vision and learning. She was able to demo RightEye Functional EyeQ herself and was very interested to see her results. She shared with us that her son struggled with schoolwork. While reading, he experienced blurry and double vision, letters jumbled together on the page, and easily lost his place. He had trouble sustaining attention, he skipped and repeated lines, had poor comprehension, and was below the expected grade level in reading. He also experienced car sickness and coordination symptoms such as clumsiness and poor handwriting. His mom mentioned that college was probably not in his path; he would enjoy a job in which he could work with his hands with limited reading involved. His RightEye results allowed Dr. Neil to quickly confirm a diagnosis of oculomotor dysfunction of pursuits, saccades, and fixation.
The results also allowed the patient's mom to understand the diagnosis, connect it to his symptoms, and truly SEE how her son sees. This patient was prescribed a comprehensive optometric vision therapy program to treat oculomotor dysfunction, convergence excess, accommodative insufficiency, and visual information processing dysfunction. He was an extremely hard worker and started to see great improvements right away. We repeated RightEye every three months to confirm we were progressing well. To be able to show a parent the patient's objective progress is very important in our practice and one of our favorite aspects of RightEye technology. After the completion of his program, we saw incredible improvements in his visual system.
His performance in reading, handwriting, and his ability to pay attention improved drastically. Blurry and double vision is non-existent. Car sickness interrupting long family road trips is a thing of the past. He no longer sees words and letters blend and can keep his place while reading, with a significant improvement in comprehension. Most importantly, a new world of opportunity opened for his future. Upon an emotional graduation day, we were told his new plan is going to college to become an optometrist. He wants to become a doctor to give other kids a chance to change their future's vision, just like his own. To quote this inspiring young man, "I will walk out proud. Thank you again. You have changed my future."
